weather (not) permitting

It’s been tough to do pretty much anything outside this past month. Certainly nice to get a good dump of snow every once in a while, but it does limit what tasks we can accomplish out of doors. Hope everyone has fared well!

We’re still doing weekly lettuce deliveries to Hidden Julles, though the yields each week have been low, due to the low amount of light per day and some really cold temps. We do heat the water that the lettuce floats on (which is probably why we’re able to get any yield at all!) But we’ve rounded the bend and the days will be getting longer henceforth, so we’re hoping that our lettuce yields will start climbing up, as well.

The last big greenhouse update before the January snow was that we installed a water line in the same trench that the electric went in. We did a brief test and were able to get water out of the hydrant without any visible leaks in the line. However, that trench remained open to the air throughout the month, so we’d like to test the line again and re-check for leaks here soon.

Aside from that, the next greenhouse item on the list will be to install a storm door on the endwall nearest our house, and take care of the last couple items on that endwall. And then we’ll get the far endwall framed and install the fans, etc after that. I’m hoping that we have nicer / dryer / longer days in February and March to allow more outside time to work on this greenhouse. Still aiming to have it operational before the farmer’s market starts back up in April!
